ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday raised questions regarding the authenticity of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sheikh Akhtar Hussain’s PhD degree.

The DRAP CEO had earned the degree in 2011 from Open International University in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The HEC, on its own website, has said that Open International University is “illegal and fake”.

On Thursday, a citizen had requested the HEC to investigate Hussain’s degree.

Hussain was appointed as the DRAP CEO by the federal cabinet in December last year for a three-year term. Previously, he had successfully declared himself dead after a number of corruption probes were launched against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
