–Fawad, Bilawal express sorrow over Roohi’s demise
Famous actress Roohi Bano passed away on Friday while undergoing treatment in Turkey. She was reportedly suffering from kidney failure and mental disorder.
She was admitted to a hospital in Istanbul on January 3, after which it was reported that she had suffered renal failure. The former artist had been on a ventilator for the past 10 past days.
Moreover, according to her Bano’s sister, Rubina, her family had travelled to Istanbul to be with her in her last days. Having said that, Rubina said that the family is yet to decide whether Bano’s body will be transported to Pakistan for burial or she will be laid to rest in Turkey.
Bano was a well-educated Pakistani actress and a presidential award winner as well.
In Nov 2018, Bano went missing from Lahore’s Fountain House, where she was being treated for her mental illness and was found at her brother’s house. It had been reported that she suffered from psychological problems ever since her son was murdered in 2005. She was admitted to Lahore’s Fountain House in the same year for treatment of schizophrenia.
A few years ago, the Pakistan National Council of Arts had planned a documentary on the life and works of the troubled actress, but the project could not be executed.
Roohi Bano joined the TV fraternity when she was doing her MSc in Psychology from the Government College, Lahore. Her first television appearance was in a quiz show, after which, Farooq Zamir offered her to act in plays.
Roohi married twice and also acted in a few films but television is where her heart is. Her outstanding performances in Qila Kahani, Zard Gulab, Hairatkada, Darwaza, Kiran Kahani etc, placed her head and shoulders above her counterparts.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of renowned film and television artist Roohi Bano. In his condolence message, he said that Roohi Bano was the most popular and fascinating artist of the country, who greatly influenced the public with her artistic skills. She would always live in the hearts of her fans through wonderful characters she had played, he added. The minister prayed to God to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of renowned and senior actress Roohi Bano. In a condolence message issued by the PPP Secretariat, Bilawal said that Roohi Bano was a talented actress and her services will always be remembered. He prayed to God to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family and fans to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.
