PM, COAS discuss regional security matters

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday called on Prime Minister Imran Khan at the PM’s Office where they discussed issues of mutual concern.

The one-on-one meeting between PM Imran and Gen Bajwa was held to exchange views on national security and overall situation of the region.

After the meeting, Gen Bajwa also attended the important meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan to mull over the visa regime system with different countries of the world.

The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi.

In a media briefing after the meeting, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the government has decided to bring changes in the visa policy.

“Businessman and journalists will be benefited from the new visa policy. Tourists will come to Pakistan due to the new visa policy,” he said.

He said that the government was taking measures to boost the tourism sector in the country. Fawad said for the first time, significant changes would be brought in the visa regime. The details of it, he said, would be shared in the next two days.

The new visa regime would be beneficial for businessmen, journalists and expatriate Pakistanis and would have an impact on the tourism industry in the country, he added.

The info minister said the federal government has decided to relax visa rules for 97 countries to attract tourists and foreign investment in the country.

In the last meeting with the prime minister, Gen Bajwa had briefed the premier regarding the overall security situation of the country. Matters related to ongoing operations against terrorism were also discussed.
