Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Moonis Elahi on Thursday rejected rumours that his father, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, was eyeing the office of Punjab chief minister.

In a tweet posted in response to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Information Secretary Hassan Murtaza’s statement that the PPP was in favour of “a constitutional and legal change in the province” and is open to Pervaiz Elahi becoming the new chief minister in place of Usman Buzdar, Moonis Elahi wrote: “Thank you but he is not interested.”

Early in the day, Hassan Murtaza had stated that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would rather prefer to see “a constitutional and legal change in the province” in which case Pervaiz Elahi would be acceptable to Sindh’s ruling party as a replacement of incumbent Usman Buzdar.

However, the current Punjab Provincial Assembly speaker’s son said that nothing of the sort was on the cards.
