PCB apologises over racist remarks by Sarfraz

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday expressed regret over the racist remarks by Sarfraz Ahmed during the second One Day International (ODI) against South Africa in Durban.

In a press release, the cricket governing body said that “it expresses regret over the remarks made by their captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and picked up by the stump mic during the second ODI against South Africa in Durban”.

“The PCB neither endorses nor supports any comments that have the potential to cause offence, and firmly reiterates their zero-tolerance approach towards racist comments made; in whatever context,” it read.

The PCB further maintained that such incidents highlight the significance of player’s education and training “at all levels”.

“Sarfraz is a respected player but his remarks are not acceptable to the cricket governing body in any capacity,” it further asserted.

During the second match, when the ‘black’ South African batsman Andile Phehlukwayo was on the crease, Sarfraz said to him: “Abbay kaale teri ammi kahan bethi huwi hain aaj, kya parhwa kay aaya hai?”, which, literally, translates into “Hey black guy, where’s your mother sitting today? What [prayer] have you got her to say for you today?”
