Payments to sugarcane farmers will be ensured at all costs: Aun Ch

LAHORE: Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Aun Chaudhary has said the exploitation of farmers will not be tolerated and payments to sugarcane farmers at fixed rates will be ensured at every cost.

“The development of agriculture sector along with the welfare of farmers is a priority of the government,” he said during his visit to Shah Taj Sugar Mill in Mandi Bahauddin on Thursday.

Aun said development of the agriculture sector is vital for the national economy, adding that it would also result in the prosperity of the farmers. “Solid steps are also being taken in this regard.”

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Mehtab Wasim Azhar briefed Aun at his office about the crushing season. He said that measures were being taken for payments to sugarcane farmers in Mandi Bahauddin district.

“As many as 46 procurement centres have been set up in the district and around the clock monitoring is being done by the district administration. 352,000 metric tons of sugarcane crop has been produced so far,” he added.

During his visit to the mill, Aun talked to the farmers about their payments. The farmers appreciated the steps taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and the district administration which they said had helped in timely payments.
