Karachi school van owners’ association observes strike

KARACHI: The school van owners’ association on Thursday announced to hold a day-long strike across the city, demanding allowance from the authorities to use CNG and LPG cylinders in school vehicles.

According to School Vehicles Association President Abdul Kareem Khan, drivers of school vans will not be providing pick and drop services to students until acceptance of their demands.

He also demanded the government to return them 1,500 CNG cylinders that were seized during police’s campaign against school vehicles with substandard CNG and LPG cylinders.

Following the strike, parents of the children faced difficulties on Thursday morning in dropping off their kids to schools.

Earlier, a crackdown against the school vans, using substandard cylinders, started when six children were injured after their school van caught fire in Karachi’s Orangi Town on January 5, 2019.
