Karachi likely to have three more districts

KARACHI: While overcoming issues of the ever-growing population growth in the metropolis, the Sindh government is likely to establish three more new districts in the port city very shortly, Pakistan Today has learnt.

According to well-placed sources, that with the creation of these three new districts, the total number of Karachi’s districts would stand at nine from the existing six districts that included East, West, South, Central, Malir and Korangi.

Karachi was comprised of five districts; however, the Sindh chief minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah had established a new district namely Korangi through a notification in November 2013.

According to sources, the chief minister (CM) had directed the concerned deputy commissioner (DC), assistant commissioners (AC) and mukhtiarkars to conduct a detailed survey so that three new districts could be established to ease up population issues and ensure the provision of civic facilities to the dwellers of the city.

The new districts will be Keamari district, Orangi district and the name of the third district will comprise areas of Bin Qasim, Gadap, Bahria town up to DHA City project on the superhighway.

“The Keamari districts will consist of four subdivisions including Harbour, Mauripur, Baldia and SITE with a total population of 18 lacs and thirty-three thousand,” they said.

“The final notification regarding the establishment of new districts will be issued very shortly with the approval of chief minister”, a senior official at the Board of Revenue told Pakistan Today while requesting not to be named.
