ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday condemned the attack on an Afghan security base in Maidan Wardak that claimed more than 100 lives on Monday.
He took to Twitter and said, “My condolences go to the people of Afghanistan at the great loss of life suffered in the condemnable act of terror in Maidan Wardak province on Monday; I pray that peace will return soon to our war-ravaged neighbour.”

Earlier, Foreign Office also issued its condemnation on the same in a tweet by FO spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal, who said, “We pray for the maghfirah [forgiveness] of the deceased. Our hearts go out for the bereaved families. We share their grief.”

“Such reprehensible acts vitiate the environment of ongoing efforts for peace,” he wrote further, referring to the ongoing peace talks with leaders from Pakistan, the United States, and Afghanistan reportedly participating.
Earlier, on Monday, an attack on the military compound in central Maidan Wardak province killed over 120 members of the security forces.
According to media reports, at least 126 people, including eight special commandos had been killed in the explosion inside the military training centre. The official said the assault began on Monday morning when the attackers rammed a car full explosives through a military checkpoint and detonated the vehicle inside the campus of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) forces training centre in Maidan Shahr, the capital of Maidan Wardak province.
