— Maryam expresses concerns over former premier’s medical reports

LAHORE: The medical reports of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif were declared unsatisfactory after he underwent echo and thallium scan tests at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) on Tuesday.

The reports indicated expansion of heart size as its muscle has thickened while Sharif’s echocardiogram (echo) test was also declared unsatisfactory.

Three cardiac tests of Nawaz Sharif were conducted at PIC, including echo, thallium and electrocardiogram (ECG). Thallium report will be issued by the hospital administration within few hours, sources said.

Strict security measures were made during Nawaz’s arrival at the hospital as heavy contingents of police were deployed at the entrance of the emergency ward.  Attendants of other patients were told to leave the room.

Sources said that a three-member medical board was formed for medical check-up of the former premier. The board was headed by Dr Shahid Hameed while other members include Dr Sajjad Ahmed and Dr Hamid Khalil.

The medical board suggested that echocardiography of Nawaz Sharif be performed.

Meanwhile, Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz expressed deep concerns over the medical reports. She said that symptoms of heart disease were emerging again as per the initial report.

Maryam in her latest statement said that she wanted to reach the hospital but her father stopped her.

The former premier was previously reported to be experiencing chest pains and was advised to undergo medical tests.

Nawaz has been imprisoned in the Kot Lakhpat jail since December 24, 2018 after an accountability court found him guilty in the Al-Azizia corruption reference.
