Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology faces acute shortage of beds

FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC) is facing an acute shortage of beds, due to which patients have been left facing a great ordeal in the emergency ward of the hospital.

Hospital spokesperson told APP on Tuesday that about 250 cardiac patients visit FIC on a daily basis and the annual number of patients was around 75,000, whereas the hospital had a facility of only 66 beds in its emergency ward.

“Owing to the shortage of beds, some patients are treated on stretchers, some on chairs and stools,” he added.

When contacted, FIC Medical Superintendent Dr Ejaz Bhatti said that provision of bed facility to heart patients was imperative during treatment.

“Therefore, the hospital administration is taking measures to resolve the issue and hopefully the shortage of beds would be overcome very soon,” Dr Bhatti said.
