KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday sought a reply from the Sindh government regarding vacant positions in various government hospitals on a plea against the lack of doctors and paramedical staff in state-run hospitals.
A two-member bench of the SHC heard the plea and sought a reply from the respondents.
The petitioner told the court that the Sindh government did not submit its reply regarding the lack of doctors in Karachi, Shikarpur, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Badin, Thatta and Larkana hospitals.
He said that vacant positions include those of cardiologists, gynaecologists, child specialists and others. “Hundreds of positions for doctors and paramedical staff are vacant in the hospitals,” he said.
He further said that currently, main hospitals of the province are facing a shortage of around 2,100 doctors which is why patients face difficulties.
The court, later, adjourned the hearing till February 4.
