Rainfall disrupts electricity supply in Karachi

KARACHI: Electricity supply to major parts of the city was disrupted on Sunday night due to heavy rainfall and thunder.

The areas that received rainfall included Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Malir Cantt, Defence, Clifton, as well as neighbourhoods in the vicinity of the Karachi airport and near Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road.

Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah has directed Karachi commissioner, deputy commissioners and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to drain water from the metropolis.

On the other hand, localities, where electricty supply was disrupted, comprised Gulistan-e-Johar, Model Colony, Saddar, North Karachi, and Orangi Town.

The official handle for the city’s electricity provider, K-Electric, shared that teams were working to restore electricity supply to the affected areas.

There is a “power outage on the PMTs [pad-mounted transformers] in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Karachi, Orangi Town, and Garden”, a spokesperson for K-Electric had said.

Later, in an update, it shared that power supply to Tariq Road, Numaish, Passport Office, Federal B area, Gulshan Chorangi, Lucky Star and Mohammad Ali Society had been restored.
