Nawaz is unwell in jail, says Maryam

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Monday said that she has been informed that her father Nawaz Sharif is unwell in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail where he is imprisoned, adding that the Sharif family is being kept in the dark about the actual situation.

In a tweet, she said, “I have been told that MNS is unwell and is being taken to Punjab Institute of Cardiology tomorrow but myself or the family has no knowledge of it.”

On January 19, a special medical board that examined the former premier in jail said that he has “unidentified” symptoms of pain in both his arms. “The patient has vague symptoms of pain in both arms particularly at night and numbness of toes. He can walk 45 minutes without any significant symptoms. He denied any symptoms of dizziness, pre-syncope or syncope. His hemodynamics were also within normal limits. He is on dual antiplatelets, beta blocker, amlodipine, ARB’S and stains with anti-diabetic treatment,” the report prepared by the medical broad read.

The same day, Maryam lashed out at the government for not releasing the official medical reports of her father. In a tweet, she said that the medical boards formed by the federal government had examined him on January 16. Yet, she said, the only information the Sharif family received was from media reports, which she deemed as “alarming”. “We’re still in the dark as to what his actual condition is. Access to official reports still awaited,” her tweet read.
