Lawyers go on strike to protest CTD ‘encounter’ in Sahiwal

LAHORE: The lawyer community on Monday went on a strike to protest the murder of three members of a family by Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials, as a petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding the incident.

On Saturday, four people were killed  by CTD officials near Sahiwal in an alleged encounter.

Khalil, a grocer in Kot Lakhpat, Lahore, his wife Nabeela, their 13-year-old daughter, and their neighbour Zeeshan were on their way to a wedding in Burewala when they were killed in firing on their car near the toll plaza on GT Road in the Qadirabad area.

The lawyers’ strikes were called by the Punjab Bar Council and were observed by district bar associations in Lahore, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Khanewal and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Protests are took place in Kamalia and Toba Tek Singh during which the lawyers demanded the provision of justice.

In Peshawar, lawyers boycotted proceedings of the high court and local courts on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council’s orders.

Meanwhile, the trader community also observed a strike in Burewala and Vehari.
