Karachi traffic police officer shot dead

KARACHI: A traffic police officer was shot dead in a target-killing incident in the provincial capital’s Garden Town area on Sunday.

The officer, Ihtesham Ahmed, was commuting to his duty post at Mazar-e-Quaid Chowk on Sunday night when men on motorbike opened fire at him.

According to police, the officer sustained injuries in the chest and arm.

A forensic test of the bullets recovered from the site will be performed.

The officer, who hailed from Hyderabad, joined the Karachi traffic police in 2007.

Inspector General of Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam directed the deputy inspector general (DIG) of traffic police to conduct and inquiry into the incident and ordered to submit a report on steps taken by police over the matter.
