SWAT: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Saturday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) councillor Hayat Khan from Kabal Tehsil of Swat over his alleged involvement in drug trafficking, according to police reports.

The arrest coincides with Minister of State for Interior,  Shahriyar Khan Afridi’s promise to the nation that he would eradicate the menace of drugs from Pakistan even if it costs him his life.

“I have told forces that there will be no compromise over the drug trade. We have to be bold against the mafia. We will make them a lesson for others to learn,” he vowed.

It is pertinent to mention here that Hayat Khan is a prominent leader of the area and was elected as a representative in the last local bodies election.

Earlier, there were also reports of the arrest of Afridi’s nephew, Talal Nadir Afridi, along with two other people for possession of half a kilogramme of hashish. However, he was released on bail.
