Encroachment removal from Kidney Hill Park real test

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday sought replies from Sindh chief secretary and Health secretary, over a plea against the Sindh government for not issuing funds to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari (SBBMCL).

The court heard the plea and sought replies from the department concerned.

However, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) submitted its report before the court which said that the SBBMCL is deprived of an ISO certification and fundamental infrastructure. “Library, blood bank, and museum are not as per needed standard,’’ the report reads.

The report further said that although beds have been installed in Lyari General Hospital, the college is deprived of a coloured printer and microscope facilities.

“Despite summoning the concerned record, the college principal did not provide it to the PMDC,’’ the report added.

The PMDC has already decreased 50 seats for admission in the medical college due to the lack of facilities.

On the previous hearing, SBBMCL Vice Principal (VP) Dr Ameer Khaskheli had approached the SHC.

Advocate Ahmed Ali Ghumro, counsel of the applicant, had told the court that PMDC had expressed concern over lack of facilities in SBBMCL and decreased 50 seats for admission in the college due to the lack of facilities.

The counsel had further told the court that the Sindh government neglects the college. He had said that the contracts of a few college professors have already expired and the future of hundreds of medical students is at the stake.

He had said that the funds are not being issued to the college due to a delay in the summary process to Sindh chief minister, chief secretary and others.
