KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday held a hearing of the petition by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking inquiry orders against Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Additional Director Agha Ata Abbas.
During the hearing, investigation officer told the court that Abbas was a Grade-5 official but he is performing duties on four positions of Grade-19.
The NAB counsel said that a personal file vanished from Abbas’s record while his promotion documents were found fake. It is suspected that the personal file was removed to hide the fake promotion documents, the NAB counsel added.
The defence lawyer, while rejecting the allegations, said that his client is innocent as the allegations levelled by the anti-graft watchdog were completely baseless.
Justice Umar Sayal responded to the defence lawyer, saying, “Every lawyer always tells the court that his client is innocent.”
Justice Sayal lamented the anti-corruption watchdog, saying that NAB will not be allowed to prolong investigation against any individual for years-long time and it should also stop steps to defame individuals.
The SHC judge added that evidence must be provided before the court, if any possessed by the NAB, otherwise they will not be tolerated to prolong proceedings in this regards.
Justice Sayal warned NAB, saying, “NAB is giving stance that he [Agha Ata Abbas] is not an officer. NAB will witness consequences if failed to complete the investigation within a month.”
