Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has challenged the government to initiate legal proceedings against him if it has evidence that he helped former finance minister Ishaq Dar in fleeing to London.

Appearing on a private television show, Abbasi was confronted by a question about whether he had helped Dar leave the country to escape corruption allegations against him. Responding to the question, the former PM said that he if had helped his colleague the government should go ahead and prosecute him.

“I didn’t hear them say anything in the assembly today, but if they have made this claim they should prosecute me,” he said.

“Yes I have helped him. I did it. And if the government has the guts and the courage to do it, then they will prosecute me.”

“If they are telling the truth then prosecute me. All their ministers are sitting in parliament, I am there also and I am willing to face them” he went on to say.
