ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC), in a written order on Wednesday, stated that the names of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah should immediately be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the top court wrote the verdict wherein he ordered the joint investigation team (JIT) to send all evidence and relevant material to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The verdict stated that the JIT would assist the bureau in the investigation and submit a report to the court within 15 days.
The order stated that if concrete evidence is found against the PPP chairman and Sindh’s chief executive, then their names can be added to the ECL again.
On January 7, the Supreme Court had ordered NAB to initiate a fresh inquiry into the mega money laundering and fake bank accounts case.
The apex court had ordered NAB to investigate the case in light of a report recently submitted by the JIT probing the matter, and to complete its investigation within two months.
“NAB can probe Bilawal and CM Shah independently. If after the investigation a reference can be formed, then it should be filed,” Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had observed.
