KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday announced that it will stop playing soft music during its flights and instead Qaseeda Burda Sharif (an ode of praise for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will be played.

The decision was taken under directives of PIA Chairman Air Marshal Arshad Malik.

Before the flight takes off, a recitation for a safe journey (due-e-safar) is also recited. Moreover, it is learnt that Qaseeda Bura Shareef is being played in all Boeing-777 jets initially.

Earlier, Malik had said that some loss-making PIA routes have been closed.

While addressing a press conference, he had stated that “a corruption mafia was active within the airline’s team, thus it was bearing huge losses in its operations on a number of loss-making routes”.

“We also came to know about a shortage of the professionals in the organisation,” he had said.

The complaint about misbehaviour with the passengers was a routine. Moreover, there were reports about the removal of engines from the aircraft and disappearance of various parts,” he added.

The PIA was going into a loss of around Rs300 to 500 million at various routes, thus to minimise the losses, these routes have been closed, Malik said.
