-Police launch crackdown against street criminals involved in mobile and bike snatching

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed Sindh police to keep strict vigilance on the drug peddling in educational institutions.

This he said on Wednesday while presiding over a weekly meeting on the law and order here at the CM House. The meeting was attended by CM’s Law Advisor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Sindh Inspector General (IG) Dr Kaleem Immam, Principal Secretary to CM Sajid Jamal Abro, Home Secretary Kazi Kabir, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Additional IG Dr Waliullah Dal, Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shahlwani, CTD Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdullah Shaikh, DIG South Sharjeel Kharal, DIG East Amir Farooqi and DIG West Ameen Yousafzai.

“This is a serious matter and must be handled seriously. Children are this country’s future and we have to bring them up in a safe, secure and healthy atmosphere,” he said.

The chief minister said that parents urged him to take strict action against drug peddling in educational institutions whenever he met with them. “I am quite concerned about our children,” he said while adding that they were innocent and could be moulded towards good and bad things easily.

DIG South Sharjeel Kharal told the chief minister that he had arrested an important culprit involved in developing a group to penetrate narcotics in educational institutions.

Taking the discussion further, IG Kaleem Imam said that the police have already launched a targeted operation against the drug mafia and busted their different gangs on earlier instructions given by the CM.

The chief minister then directed the education secretary to develop coordination between private educational institution administration and the police besides, involving parents to develop a mechanism to stop drug peddling in educational institutions.

Giving a progress report of last week’s meeting decisions, the DIG told the chair that he had held a few meetings with DHA authorities for the installation of more CCTV cameras and fixing the ones that are out of order.

Moreover, CTD Additional IG Waliullah Dal and CTD DIG Abdullah Shaikh briefed the chief minister about busting a gang involved in making fake armed licenses.

On this, IG Kaleem Imam added the fake license producing culprits, their facilitators in the police department and DC offices have also been taken into custody.

DIG East Amir Farooqui and DIG West Amin Yousif Zai briefed the chief minister about the steps taken by them to curb street crime. They said that they have launched a crackdown against street criminals involved in mobile and bike snatching.
