Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday released a video slamming fake news and highlighting the achievements of the government in its first five months in power.

The video was shared by PTI’s official Twitter handle and starts off with the screenshots of a few instances of fake news. The video then goes on to highlight the achievements of the incumbent PTI government, including securing bailout packages from friendly countries such as Saudi Arabia and UAE and satisfying the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) with the measures taken to curb money laundering and terror financing.

PTI shared the video with the aim of explaining the reasons behind the sudden rise fake news regarding the government’s policies and decisions. According to the video, some elements had conspired against the government because of its achievements. The video also shows news stories regarding the huge spending on advertisements by the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and how the incumbent government had regulated the government budget.

It is worth noting here that the video also points out journalist Nusrat Javeed’s tweet in which he alleged that Prime Minister Imran Khan had tried to get him killed. On December 8, 2018, renowned news analyst Nusrat Javeed said that he had survived an accident, initially accusing Prime Minister Imran Khan of “trying to get him killed” before retracting the statement. On his official Twitter account, Javeed tweeted, “It is 1:16 and the prime minister of Pakistan has tried to get me killed. I am still alive.” A number of journalists and politicians condemned the incident and demand a transparent probe into the claims. Later, Javeed retracted his allegations against the premier and apologised for his “post-accident trauma and paranoia”. He tweeted, “After a thorough probe, the Islamabad police found that my tyre hit a stone, got burst and the car skidded and thus the rest of damage.” The video also labels as fake journalist Omar Qureshi’s tweet about a resolution submitted in the National Assembly (NA) by PTI MNA Asma Hadeed for state’s recognition of Israel.

As an ending note, the video questions, “Is this happening because some elements associated with the media were beneficiaries of the previous government?”
