Indian HC briefs interior secy on Kartarpur corridor

ISLAMABAD: Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria on Tuesday gave a detailed briefing regarding the pace of work on the Kartarpur corridor to the interior secretary at the Indian Interior Ministry in New Dehli.

The meeting discussed the feasibility of the Kartarpur corridor.

In the first phase, a four-lane corridor will be constructed from Indian Gurdaspur to the Pakistan border while in the second phase, a four-lane corridor would link Amritsar to Gurdaspur.

The meeting also reviewed security and law and order situation in connection with the construction of the corridor. The Indian government, after taking necessary security measures and other arrangements regarding Sikh pilgrims’ visit to Pakistan, will discuss the details with Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will construct a 4.5 km long corridor to link the Indian border with Gurdwara Sahib.

An 800-meter long bridge on Ravi will also be constructed. According to sources, an estimated 30 per cent construction work on the corridor has been completed.

Pakistan would be able to complete construction of its 4.5km long corridor in August this year.
