ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday scheduled the hearing of an appeal by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment verdicts for January 21.
A two-member bench of the IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Aamer Farooq will hear the appeals.
In Al-Azizia reference, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs1.5 billion last month. However, he was acquitted in the Flagship reference by the accountability court due to insufficient evidence.
Subsequently, the anti-graft body filed two separate appeals against the verdicts. NAB argued that the verdict in the Flagship reference was against the law, adding that it should been in accordance with the evidence submitted to the court.
Similarly, the bureau argued that the seven-year imprisonment sentence was insufficient and should be increased.
The former premier has also filed an appeal against the verdict in Al-Azizia reference.
The appeal by NAB will be heard along with Nawaz’s by the IHC.
