Vasay Chaudhry, a well-known screenwriter, actor, host and comedian late Sunday night announced that he will be stepping down from his position as an advisor in the Punjab cultural advisory council, more specifically the film sub-committee.

In a series of tweets, the comedian said that there is “no point” of being part of the committee if the “carefully and passionately thought out paperwork is not being forwarded or implemented”.

He started off saying, ” I have been a part of the cultural advisory council (Punjab) more specifically the film sub-committee (along with Shaan, Syed Noor and Rashid kh sb) since the last three months. This committee was formed by the minister for Culture.”

He continued to say that, “During this time, we offered multiple suggestions, some of which are as follows 1)offering medical services to veteran artists. I’m pleased to share that by the grace of God & support from CM Punjab, Health cards are now being issued to artists across the province.”

He continued to list down things suggested to the ministry, which included; the introduction of a Lahore Film Festival, a formation of a film authority in the province offering benefits to help film production and revival of the film industry and restructuring the taxes on cinemas in Punjab along with suggestions to curtail the cinema mafia.

He further continued saying that “the reason I mentioned all these things is that I feel a moral obligation even if it’s in the capacity of an advisor”.

“I believe that I’m accountable for my performance because it’s the taxpayers’ money which was utilised in those long sessions & meetings,” he added.

In his final tweet, he announced that he will be stepping down from his position as an advisor from the committee.
