Parents of 2 children who died from food poisoning pardon Arizona Grill owners

–Arizona Grill’s counsel informs court that the two parties have reached a settlement

KARACHI: The parents of two children in Karachi who died from consuming contaminated food at a restaurant informed the court on Monday that they had forgiven the individuals responsible.

The duo said that they did not intend to pursue any further legal action against them.

The parents made the comments as the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday resumed hearing of an application seeking bail of the two suspects arrested over the incident.

Five-year-old Muhammad and his 1.5-year-old brother Ahmad had consumed a meal at Arizona Grill restaurant and cotton candy from a shop outside Seaview’s amusement part in November last year.

However, they later started vomiting when they reached home. The excessive vomiting caused dehydration and kidney failure which led to their deaths.

Arizona Grill was sealed by authorities after an investigation into the matter was launched.

Further, SGS Korangi and Punjab Forensic Science Agency were given food samples from the bodies of the deceased, the restaurant and the families’ home.

During the hearing on Monday, a report submitted to the high court explained that the brothers had died due to poisoning; elaborating that meat samples collected from the restaurant showed high levels of E.coli bacteria. According to the Sindh Food Authority (SFA), ingestion of large quantities of the bacteria caused the deaths.

A legal representative of the restaurant owner informed the court that the two parties had reached a settlement over the matter.

However, the SHC directed that copies of the agreement be submitted to a trial court.
