–Rehman Hamid files petition in court, calls his degree ‘HEC verified’

ISLAMABAD: The National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) has dismissed an official from services over charges of fake educational certificate.

According to documents, the Ministry of Commerce sub-department dismissed Rehman Hamid from services for keeping a ‘fake’ degree. “The ministry appointed him due to political influence of former minister of state for commerce,” sources added.

They said that the management gave Hamid a number of opportunities and served dozens of letters and show cause notices to him but he “deliberately did not submit original certificates and degrees for verification”.

The NICL management started degree verification process of all its employees on the directions of the top court, sources said and added that Hamid was hired in NICL purely on contract basis.

Interestingly, Hamid gained two consecutive promotions and deputation based transfer and postings, which the department claims are illegal and based on political influence of the then minister of state for commerce. Sources said that he represented Pakistan in Tokyo for almost six years as a commercial counselor.

Sources said that Hamid is the only employee of the company who, despite two and a half years, did not comply with the directions of the management deliberately and committed willful disobedience.

In addition to this, Hamid also submitted a fake and fabricated medical certificate whereas the auditor aeneral had also objected his appointment, sources said, adding that he also kept the official laptop, mobile phone and external hard disk which he is yet to return.

In his reply to one show cause notice, Hamid claimed that he is ready to give original degrees to the management of NICL for verification. However, he alleged that the NICL staff is making excuses “not to receive them”.

While talking to Pakistan Today, Hamid said his degrees are verified from the HEC. I have filed a petition in court against this order, he added.
