LAHORE: The Punjab University (PU) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday were sent notices by the Lahore High Court (LHC) over alleged discrimination against a visually impaired female student seeking to appear in the entrance exams for PU’s master’s programme.

The student, Kinza Javed, who is a gold medalist, was not allowed to take the admission test at first, with the university administration refusing to print her the examination paper in large font, the petition said.

Kinza was “called and told to not show up for the exam, but later, after much pleading, was allowed to appear in the exam”, the petition added.

Kinza failed to read and respond to questions properly due to the small font used on the examination sheet given to her.

The petition further claimed that Kinza was asked to leave the examination room while she was taking the exam.

She was then failed by a five-mark margin.

The HEC and the university were then directed by the court to ensure that their representatives are present during the next hearing on January 30.
