QUETTA: Ruling Balochistan Awami Party’s (BAP) Manzoor Ahmed Kakar on Monday won the Senate by-poll held on a vacant seat by securing 38 votes.
The seat had fallen vacant after the demise of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s (PkMAP) legislator Sardar Azam Musakhail.
Balochistan National Party-Mengal’s (BNP-M) Ghulam Nabi Mari bagged 23 votes while the candidate of PkMAP, Muhammad Hanif, received only one vote.
The polling process continued from 9 am to 4 pm without any breaks at the Balochistan Assembly building amid strict security measures taken by police and FC. Election Commissioner Asrar Khan was the returning officer.
As many as 63 members of the house cast their votes out of total 65. Those who did note cast their votes were Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind and Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri.
BNP-M had threatened to take back its support from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led coalition if it did not support the party in the by-polls.
