An under-trial prisoner has escaped from Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi, a private media outlet reported Saturday.
According to reports, the prisoner was brought to JPMC on January 5 and got admitted in the general ward from where he managed to escape early Friday morning despite the presence of the court police.
The suspect had gunshot wounds on his leg which was previously operated upon. He was admitted again to undergo surgery as he felt difficulty in walking.
He had been arrested in an injured condition following a recent encounter with Korangi police.
The incident has resulted in the arrest and suspension of two court policemen over charges of criminal negligence whereas a third official is on the run.
Meanwhile, Prisons Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought an immediate inquiry report from the inspector general of prisons.
