ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi on Sunday claimed that he has the full support of the Prime Minister Imran Khan over the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign across the country.
Talking to media in Islamabad, Afridi said that the credit for initiating the campaign in the country, including the federal capital, lies with him.
“I received full support from the premier in the anti-drugs campaign which is underway with full vigour across the country. My vision and PM Khan’s vision is to make Pakistan drugs-free,” he said.
“We will begin awareness campaigns on roads and buses against drug use,” he added.
Separately, in a statement, he said that an anti-narcotics campaign has been started across the country under the prime minister`s vision of a drug-free Pakistan.
Refuting the news alluded to him, he said that elements who are being nabbed for drug-related crimes are trying to malign him by propaganda.
He clarified that he has no links with the people taking snapshots with him and being a political worker he cannot refuse people from taking photos.
Last month, Afridi claimed that as many as 75 per cent female students of the federal capital are addicted to stimulating drugs, including ice and crystal meth; whereas almost 45 per cent of male students too are substance abusers.
Afridi said that keeping in view the alarming upward trend of drugs among students, the Interior Ministry has come up with an effective strategy aimed at not sparing anyone pushing drugs and destroying the youth’s future.
“The federal government has waged war on drug barons, land grabbers and mafia groups and an example will be made out of those involved in heinous crimes targeting the common people,” he said, adding that the capital city police has also launched a crackdown in this regard.
