KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Saturday refused to agree to the Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) report regarding the Chinese Consulate attack case.
While hearing the CTD’s report pertaining to the attack on the consulate, the ATC told the CTD that its A-class report contradicted what the police had said on January 11. A-class reports are relevant to those cases in which the accused persons are unidentified or untraceable.
Karachi Police Chief Dr Amir Sheikh on Friday had said that they had arrested five suspected militants for their involvement in the November 23 attack. However, according to CTD’s A-class report, no suspects have been arrested as yet.
The ATC judge asked CTD officials why they had declared the case as A-class only because they could not catch any culprit. “Why you are not trying to arrest those responsible for the attack?” he asked.
The court directed CTD to submit an updated and complete report on January 24 and also ordered the department’s officials to submit a report on next hearing with a relevant Superintend of Police (SP’s) name.
CTD’s report had declared that terrorist Aslam Achu could not be arrested. He is believed to be the mastermind of the attack on Chinese Consulate.
“Four Kalashnikovs, two IAD bombs, detonator, hand grenade, bullets and explosive material were recovered from attackers,” the report said.
The report contained the names of Baloch nationalist leader Khair Bux Mari’s son. Other accused in the case include Captain Rehman Gul, Commander Shekho, Commander Munshi and Commander Sherol.
