COLOMBO: Saudi Ambassador to Sri Lanka Abdul Nasser bin Hussain Al-Harthi has funded a river development project in Sri Lanka, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Friday.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena patronized the opening ceremony of the development of Kalu Ganga River Development Project in central Sri Lanka, which was funded by the Saudi Fund for Development.
The project aims to create a strategic reserve for drinking water and irrigation and meet the growing demand for it through the construction of three dams on Kalu Ganga River in central Sri Lanka to irrigate 975 hectares of agricultural land.
The Saudi Fund for Development has contributed to financing 11 development projects in Sri Lanka through 14 loans with a total value of SR 1405.27 million of which eight projects have been completed in the sectors of water, energy, health, roads and education.
