PESHAWAR: An accountability court on Thursday indicted Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Dr Arbab Alamgir and his wife, a former member of provincial assembly (MPA) Asma Alamgir, in assets beyond income case.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a corruption reference against the former federal minister and his wife for allegedly accumulating assets worth Rs332 million which is disproportionate to known sources of income.
Accountability Judge Muhammad Ishtiaq heard the case and summoned four witnesses on January 24.
During the proceedings, the respondents concluded their arguments.
After the hearing, Alamgir told media that the properties “belonged to our ancestors and have been passed through the family for 200 years” and he has already informed the accountability watchdog that the properties are not in his name.
Meanwhile, Asma slighted NAB by calling it “a joke” and alleged at possible favouritism at play as “reference was filed against us but not against former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister Pervaiz Khattak”.
Claiming that the references filed against them are “incorrect”, she demanded that Khattak’s name is placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
