The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is seeking candidates with expertise in military operations, warfare and naval operations among other disciplines to fill the spot of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In a newspaper advertisement, the national airline said that it is looking for “a highly experienced, dynamic and passionate professional” to be hired as a full time CEO on a three year contact. In the job requirements section of the advert, the educational requirements have been listed as anyone with a Master’s degree “from a well reputed institute and recognised by by the HEC, related to Science, Engineering, War Course, Shipping, Naval, Aviation or Military operations and related disciplines.”
The ad goes on to include chartered accountants, and recognised business professionals with post graduate degrees in public or business administration.
Some of the educational qualifications listed in the ad such as Master’s degrees in war course, naval, aviation, military operations and related disciplines are the degrees acquired by officers of the armed forces. The previously appointed CEO of the PIA was also an aviation expert and retired air force officer. Air Marshal Arshad Malik took charge as CEO and Chairman of the PIA in October 2018. He had been appointed after the appointment of the previous CEO of the PIA, Musharraf Rasool Cyan, was declared illegal by the Supreme Court.
