Rashid Habib Memorial National Professional Golf Tournament 2019 to tee off on Jan 10

KARACHI: Bank AL Habib’s 8th Rashid Habib Memorial National Professional Golf Championship will begin on Thursday, January 10 at Karachi Golf Club (KGC).

The total prize and appearance money have been increased to Rs7.2 Million, a press release announced.

This year, the main tournament will be played over 72 holes from 10th to 13th Jan 2019 with cutover final 2 days as per Pakistan Golf Federation’s (PGF) rules. The senior national professionals and junior professionals will also be playing in their respective categories concurrently.

In addition, a two days match for local professionals and caddies of KGC is also underway.

This tournament is one of the most prominent golf events in PGF’s calendar with one of the highest prize money and is sponsored by Bank AL Habib.

Pakistan’s number one golfer Muhammad Shabbir Iqbal will defend his title against a field of 100 leading golfers from across the country.

Last year, Shabbir scored 276-12 under and was awarded Rs531,409 as prize money. Waheed Baloch was the runner up with six under and bagged Rs357,459. Mohammad Munir and Ansar Mahmood stood third with five under par and were awarded Rs201,000 each.

As a regular practice, appearance money amounting to Rs500,000 will be distributed among top five golfers of Pakistan. A brand-new Toyota car will also be awarded to the first player who achieves a hole-in-one.

In 2014, KGC’s Abrar Ahmad hit a hole-in-one from a distance of 147 yards at the yellow course at KGC and won a brand new 1300cc car.

The final round will be played on January 13, 2019, followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
