KARACHI: Governor Sindh Imran Ismail on Tuesday said that the Green Line Bus Project in Karachi, chiefly funded by the federal government, will soon be completed and opened for the public.
The governor, who visited the Green Line Bus project construction site at Numaish underpass and drove through Green Line track, was given a briefing by the officials. The governor said that the project would definitely facilitate the local commuters exposed to immense traffic problems in the metropolis.
He pointed out that adequate means of transport for the big city like Karachi had always remained a problem which exacerbated with the passage of time. “[This] project will not only accelerate the means of transportation but also reduce traffic congestion besides expending social and economic activities in the city,” he added.
The governor pointed out that the project spoke volume of the federal government’s commitment to providing the latest facilities to the people without any distinction.
He said that the Sindh government was entrusted with the responsibility of procuring buses for the project. However, there is already an inordinate delay in the procurement process. “Federal government is ready to provide a fleet of required buses for the project, to prevent further delay in completion of operations, keeping in view the importance of this public interest project,” he added.
The governor went around the entire route of the Green Line Project and also planted a sapling.
