RAWALPINDI: Punjab government has released education funds amounting to Rs23 billion for payment of salaries to teachers working in the second shift of school all over the province including Rawalpindi as their salaries stand withheld since the last two years.
According to media reports the deputy commissioners of respective districts have been directed to ensure payment of two years salaries to teaching and non-teaching staff of second shift schools.
The teacher’s community while welcoming the release of funds for disbursement of outstanding salaries to the second shift teachers has demanded that second shift classes should be started in the existing schools rather than opening new schools. This way not only the expenditure will be curtailed but the percentage of new admissions will go up.
