The Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCE) recommended on Tuesday the dismissal of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and the Sui Northern Gas Company (SNGC) managing directors (MDs) for their incompetence that led to a gas crisis in the country, a private media outlet reported.
An inquiry report on the gas crisis experienced last month was presented in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan and attended by Finance Minister Asad Umar, Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Power Minister Umar Ayub Khan, Planning and Development Minister Khushro Bakhtiar and others concerned.
The report said that SSGC MD Amjad Lateef and SNGC MD Ameen Rajput were responsible for the crisis, following which a recommendation to sack both the MDs was sent to the Ministry of Petroleum.
The cabinet committee was also briefed on demand and supply of gas and electricity in the country. Officials from the ministries of petroleum and energy were also present on the occasion.
The premier directed both the national gas supplying companies to meet the gas requirement across the country within a week and said the authorities concerned should improve mutual coordination for the supply of gas.
