Commissioner decides to end double parking

KARACHI:  A meeting held under the chairmanship of Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani decided to stop double parking at the locations where charged parking was badly affecting the traffic flow and creating gridlock on roads.

The meeting was attended by the DIG Traffic Jawed Mahar, Deputy Commissioner South Mohammad Salahuddin, District East Ali Ahmed Siddiqui, and officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) among others.

The meeting discussed in detail the objectives of the initiative of the charged parking system.

The commissioner said that charged parking was initiated for the facilitation of parking to the vehicles systematically so as to traffic congestion could be avoided at all busy roads in the city.

The Traffic Police DIG told the meeting that there is a great need to review the locations allowed for charged parking in the city on busy and key roads as at most locations it is badly affecting the traffic flow.

It was decided in the meeting that Deputy Commissioner South Mohammad Salahuddin will prepare a report to find out the locations where charged parking is causing traffic congestions on the roads and how that could be removed. He was also asked to submit a report about the places where motorbikes are being parked on footpaths.
