PPP being forced to withdraw support for 18th Amendment, claims Bilawal

–PPP chief doesn’t see a grand alliance being formed

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said there was a “grand plan” in action to force the party to withdraw its support for the 18th Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan.

Speaking to the media, he said that PPP would never compromise on the 18th Amendment even if his whole family is put in jail. He said that there was a “grand plan” behind the joint investigation team in the fake accounts case, which aims to force the party to withdraw its support of the 18th Amendment.

“They want to use the courts for political engineering. Our opponents start complaining when I expose them, their politics of vendetta and their grand plan,” he said.

Bilawal, while responding to a question regarding PPP’s failure to respond to fake accounts allegations against former president and party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, said that the party is responding in courts since it is a legal matter, adding that on the surface, the party is only responding to “personal attacks in the media”. Bilawal also said that efforts are being made to misguide the masses and the courts because the Zardari had already submitted his reply before the joint investigation team (JIT) in the case but the report had failed to include it.

The PPP chairman also lashed out at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, saying that it is resorting to backdoor politics to get rid of its opponents because it can win the election without rigging. Talking about the need for unity in the opposition, he said that the party is making efforts in this regard and the party’s central focus is on issue-based politics.

Bilawal further said that he does not think that efforts are being made to form a grand alliance.
