NAB gets approval to grill Shehbaz Sharif in jail

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday said that it had acquired details regarding Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif owning assets beyond stated means of income.

According to reports, the anti-graft body has also acquired details regarding Shehbaz’s accounts and vehicles. Further, the bureau has obtained the authority to question the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly in jail.

The PML-N president is currently in judicial custody in Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme case.

On Friday, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed’s announced to approach to the Supreme Court (SC) to seek Shehbaz’s removal as chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

According to details, the railway minister said, “We can’t accept Shehbaz Sharif as chairman of PAC, therefore, we will move a plea in Supreme Court after two days against his appointment.”

Shehbaz was arrested by NAB in October last year in Ashiana scam case. The former chief minister was charged with awarding illegal contracts to his favorite firm.

He was apprehended during his appearance before NAB in the Saaf Pani Company scam.

NAB has alleged that as chief minister of Punjab, Shehbaz transferred the Ashiana Scheme project from Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) to Lahore Development Authority (LDA), ordered for the project to be transferred back from LDA to PLDC, illegally ordered for the project to be transferred to Paragon Housing Society and then kept it in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, interfered in board affairs and took measures in violation of the law, and illegally cancelled the contract of Lateef & Sons contractors in 2013.
