KARACHI: A number of children were injured on Saturday after a school van caught fire in the Orangi Town region of the provincial capital.
According to police, the van, which was carrying fourteen schoolchildren aged between seven and 10 years, caught fire near Qatar Hospital.
Five children who suffered burn injuries were shifted to Civil Hospital and others were taken to Qatar Hospital by local residents and the van driver.
According to eyewitnesses, the van was stuck in the mud and the children were pushing it out when the vehicle caught fire.
The children who were seated inside the van suffered burn injuries, rescue officials said.
“There was a LPG cylinder in the van which is in perfect condition,” police said, adding that initial reports suggest a short circuit caused the fire.
