ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to the late party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his 91st birth anniversary and expressed his resolve to remain steadfast on the principles of respect for humans and liberty and to follow the slogan of “Power to the people”.
Zardari said that Bhutto rebuilt the country when it been turned into ashes. He gave strength to the nation and a voice to the downtrodden masses. The former president said that Bhutto loved his country, especially the lower stratum of the society, and accepted gallows but never left his people.
“PPP will continue to work according to its founder’s ideology and will continue to resist the anti-democratic elements in the country,” he said, adding that PPP will fulfil every dream of its founder.
Meanwhile, Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Information, Law and Anti Corruption Barrister Murtaza Wahab paid tribute to the PPP founder.
In a statement on Friday, Wahab lauded Bhutto’s political vision, wisdom and bravery and said that the way Bhutto brought political parties on a single platform and struggled for strengthening democratic norms was commendable. Wahab said that the best way to pay tribute to the leader on his birth anniversary is to renew the commitment to follow his ideas for the progress of the country.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also attend a special ceremony held in honour of the party founder on Saturday. According to the PPP Punjab spokesman, a special cake-cutting ceremony will be held at Javaid Iqbal Hall, Lahore High Court (LHC) building with Bilawal as the chief guest.
The PPP Punjab and Lahore chapters, besides the other PPP leaders, will organise cake-cutting ceremonies, seminars and programmes at several places across the province to pay tribute to Bhutto.
