Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday said that Supreme Court’s (SC) order of reducing the monthly fee by 20 per cent applies to all private schools in the country.

The top judge said this during a hearing of a case on Friday. He said that the order applies to all private schools charging above Rs5,000 per month and if there is still any confusion then “hand us the file and we will read it out to everyone”.

“The administrations of schools began shutting down the schools when ordered a reduction in fee,” he remarked.

In its December 13 ruling, the apex court had ordered all private schools charging above Rs5,000 in a monthly fee to cut the fee by 20 per cent. The court also restricted the schools from increasing the annual fee by more than five per cent. The court further added that fee hike beyond five per cent would have to be approved by a regulatory body and in any case, it could not be more than eight per cent.
