ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday asked the federal and provincial governments to compile a National Action Plan (NAP) to curb the menace of drugs in the country.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar while heading a three-member bench heard a suo motu case pertaining to selling of drugs in educational institutes and directed the Information Ministry to start a public service campaign against the same.

The top judge said that he was informed about young girls using drugs and said that this issue is affecting millions of people, to which Justice Ijazul Ahsan observed that “drug abuse is eating away the youth”.

“All the chief secretaries, head of narcotics division and the federal ministers should hold a meeting and come up with National Action Plan within a week to curb the issue,” the top judge said.

Meanwhile, Punjab Additional Advocate General Chaudhry Faisal Hussain submitted a report about actions that are already taken by the provincial government, according to which 466 people have been arrested. The bench, however, was not satisfied with the performance of the federal and provincial governments.
