KARACHI – Recalcitrant police officer Rao Anwar who announced his retirement following a prolific career in police service has been allowed a farewell fake encounter to mark his retirement by an Anti-Terrorism Court.
As his 30-year-long career in police ends after he attained the age of superannuation, the opportunity to kill one last innocent person carries sentimental value for Rao Anwar, those close to the veteran shooter maintain.
“What better way to sign off a high scoring career than with the opportunity to add one more person to a number, which has proven to be incalculable since he joined police in 1982 as an assistant sub-inspector!” a close friend of Anwar’s exclaimed.
“Even though he has been released on bail, not being able to kill anyone while wearing the police uniform has been a punishment worse than prison,” another aide of the former SSP said. “He feels that his hands have been shackled and his powers taken away.”
In addition to the final fake encounter, the Anti-Terrorism Court has also ruled that this year’s PSL final in Karachi would see Rao Anwar paraded around the ground in a rickshaw similar to the farewells given to Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, during the final of PSL 2.
