PAC Chairman Shehbaz Sharif, while presiding over the committee’s maiden meeting last week, had told the PAC members that he would not review the audit paras of PML-N tenure as per the understanding reached between the government and opposition. “I will honour the understanding,” he said.

The PAC constituted eight sub-committees to review audit paras for the fiscal years from 2010 to 2018, in pursuance of Rule 224(1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly (NA), 2007.

All the committees had been directed to submit their reports to the main PAC after completing the examination of whole audit years.

Rana Tanveer Hussain will head the sub-committee on monitoring and implementation of previous PAC directives.

Earlier, on Thursday, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday excused himself from chairing a PAC meeting after doctors recommended him to rest due to his worsened backache.

The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly (NA) was scheduled to visit the Parliament and “chair a PAC meeting on law and order, however, owing to his backache and in keeping with the advice of doctors he will not be chairing the session,” a media report said.

On Wednesday, doctors had examined Shehbaz’s back and neck after he complained of severe pain and conducted physiotherapy. Following this, they recommended Shehbaz to restrict his movement and exercise.

On December 21, Shehbaz was elected as PAC Chairman unopposed. His name for the post of committee chairman was suggested by lawmaker Sheikh Rohail Asghar and confirmed by Mushahid Hussain.
